Grindelwald Swiss Playground tips for the REAL Cows Bells πŸ„πŸ””

If you have been doing any research on Switzerland with kids, I know you’ve seen this viral giant cow playground. Thats why we came, but what we didn’t expect was a full alpine soundtrack.

πŸ“ Where

Grindelwald
Mountain playground near the restaurant

🚑 How to get there

  • Train: Interlaken β†’ Grindelwald (easy, scenic, kid-friendly)

  • From town: Take the Grindelwald-First Gondola up to the restaurant/playground area

    • Get off at the Bort station the playground is right there

  • Car: Parking garage available near the lift stations. I got lost, so click here for the Google pin of where to park.

    • Parking for 2 - 24 hours is 15 CHF (about $20 USD)

πŸ’° Cost

  • Playground: Free

  • Transport: Gondola/train tickets required. Depends on the season, but in high season, expect to pay around

    • Adults - 76 CHF ($96 USD) round trip

    • Children ages 6+ are half price

    • Children UNDER 6 are FREE
***If you have a Swiss travel pass, the tickets are half price, which is a huge savings. Our hotel provided these for free, so make sure you check your lodging for discounts.

  • Food: Restaurant prices = Switzerland (worth it for the views). They had cafeteria-style food

πŸ”” The cowbell moment (don’t skip this)

We spotted the cows down the path to the right of the restaurant.
And there they were.
A small group of cows, casually grazing, bells ringing like background music.

Important tip:
If you hear cowbells, DO NOT waste time playing first.
Go look. Cows graze fast and move on.
Ours were gone within an hour, pure luck that they were even up there that day.

BUT IF YOU MISS THEM
You may still be able to catch them on the hike back down - just follow the sounds.

Cow season is playground season

LATE May to Early June until August-October, when Desalpe happens, and they return home for the winter. More on that later because we happened to be there for a celebration and it was magical.

πŸ› What to expect

  • Epic alpine playground with space to run, slide, climb, and even bowl.

  • A restaurant right there with kid-friendly options and places for adults to relax

  • Unreal views in every direction

✨ Why this stop was magic

The playground was great. We were up there for hours. You can even hike down, and they have interactive games to keep your kids interested. Here are some kids playing the Alphorn. You can see all the activities from the Gondola and hype your kids up for the walk down.

But the cowbells? That’s the memory I remember most.
Because when do you ever get to experience sound like music just existing IN THE ALPS?

Save this for your Switzerland with kids list πŸ‡¨πŸ‡
And next time you hear bells… follow them.
